In celebration of World Environment Day, and with a view to raising awareness about the pressing challenges posed by climate change, Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL), a leading power utility supplying electricity to populace of around 9 million in North Delhi, organized a special workshop cum Camp for Resident Welfare Associations at its Learning Centre, CENPEID, sector 11, Rohini in Delhi.
The initiative, aimed at accelerating the adoption of rooftop solar solutions, aligns with Tata Power-DDL’s commitment to fostering a sustainable energy ecosystem. Aptly named ‘Suryaansh’, the workshop focused on rooftop solar adoption as a key step toward mitigating the adverse impacts of climate change. Senior officials from Tata Power-DDL conducted detailed presentations and thematic sessions during the workshop, offering insights into rooftop solar technology, subsidy application procedures, and long-term benefits for consumers.
Over 80+ designated RWA members from 40+ RWAs of North and North-West parts of Delhi actively participated in the event, reflecting growing public interest in sustainable and self-reliant energy alternatives. Participants were briefed on the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSGY)—a flagship initiative of the Government of India, along with Delhi Solar Policy, encouraging households to harness solar energy through rooftop installations.
In addition to raising awareness about the scheme, Tata Power-DDL felicitated RWA members who have already adopted rooftop solar solutions at their residences. These early adopters shared their success stories and first-hand experiences, underscoring the economic and environmental benefits of transitioning to solar power.
As part of the scheme, the Central Government offers a subsidy of ₹78,000 for rooftop solar installations of up to 3 kW capacity. Additionally, the Delhi Government provides a further subsidy of up to ₹30,000, making solar power more accessible and affordable for urban households.
During the workshop, participants were encouraged to enroll for the scheme and to facilitate immediate action, on-the-spot registration support was provided at the event. Dedicated counters were arranged for various registered vendors along with bank officials for smooth registration and application under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojna. Those who successfully registered were felicitated with a gift and a certificate, as a token of appreciation for their proactive step toward sustainable living. Around 25+ number of successful registrations were achieved during the workshop.
Commenting on the initiative, Spokesperson at Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited, said, “This initiative reflects Tata Power-DDL’s unwavering commitment to promoting clean energy and advancing sustainability measures. Delhi holds immense potential for solar energy generation, and the adoption of rooftop solar systems is a critical step forward. With both the Central and State Governments offering financial subsidies, this presents a golden opportunity for retail consumers to make the switch. At Tata Power-DDL, we remain dedicated to motivating and enabling consumers to embrace rooftop solar solutions.”
The workshop concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where participants sought clarifications on installation processes, net metering, and subsidy disbursement timelines. Tata Power-DDL officials also assured continued support and guidance to interested household’s post-registration.
