Learning Centres & Infrastructure

Tata Power-DDL has consistently emphasized training and skill development as a cornerstone of its organizational philosophy since its inception in 2002, when its Human Resource Development Institute (HRDI) first became operational. Recognizing the growing need for specialized skill-building in the power distribution sector, Tata Power-DDL further strengthened its learning ecosystem by establishing the Centre for Power Efficiency in Distribution (CENPEID) — now known as the Tata Power-DDL Learning Centre — in partnership with USAID in January 2005. This state-of-the-art facility was designed not only to meet the training requirements of Tata Power-DDL’s internal workforce but also to serve as a knowledge hub for external participants from various state utilities.

The Learning Centre plays a vital role in facilitating industry-wide capacity building by providing hands-on, experience-based training that reflects Tata Power-DDL’s transformational journey. Its programs focus on enhancing technical expertise, strengthening operational and commercial functions, and preparing participants to adapt to rapidly evolving technologies and business models in the power distribution sector.

DOSEC FOR TECHNICAL & SAFETY TRAINING

In 2013, Tata Power-DDL formed DOSEC (Distribution Operations & Safety Excellence Centre) to give special emphasis on technical & safety-related training programs as defined in CEA Safety Training Regulations 2010. The Ministry of Power (MoP) & Central Electricity Authority (CEA) have given accreditation to DOSEC for providing training as per the regulations applicable to the workforce in power distribution sector.

The technical competence of Tata Power–DDL is strengthened by DOSEC (Distribution Operations & Safety Excellence Centre), which is accredited by CEA (Central Electricity Authority, Ministry of Power) as Category 1, Grade “A” Institute.

The centre trains operational staff on operating various distribution equipment like distribution transformer/power transformer, switchgear, energy meters, overhead conductors, cables, etc., with a focus on actual and demonstrable performance to create skilled manpower for its workforce and other state electricity utilities.

Vision Statement of DOSEC

  • To be a world-class safety and technical training institute in India for electricity distribution.

Mission Statement of DOSEC

  • Train workforce to become an accident-free organization and the safest place to work.
  • Continuous competency up-gradation of O&M workforce. Create skilled manpower for distribution utilities.

Real-life exposure through workshops & sites

While quality presentations, vetted through a rigorous system of checks & controls, are used invariably for all types of trainings, a greater emphasis is laid on practical training for technical themes, especially for non-officer cadre. Trainees are taught through: Transformer Workshops, Meter Lab, Metering R&D Centre, AMRI Diagnostic & Analysis Centre, Call Centre, Solar Plant, SCADA Centre, GIS Development and Analysis Centre, Fault Locating Vans, etc.

How are Hands-On Trainings Helpful?

  • Employees learning in a hands-on environment can often retain 4 times as much as opposed to just sitting in a lecture room and listening.
  • Employees get a better feel and real-world demonstration of how to operate their equipment safely, more reliably, and with greater efficiency.
