Advisory - Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited warns customers against cyber fraudsDate : Jun 24, 2022



·        Fraudulent SMS are being sent to customers using company’s name

New Delhi, June 24, 2022 - Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited, a pioneering power utility supplying electricity to a populace of over 7 million in North Delhi today issued an advisory against cyber frauds using Smishing. These miscreants have been sending fraudulent messages to customers misusing company’s name to inform them regarding payment of electricity bill, disconnection or reconnection.

How to recognise a Fake SMS:

·     The text message contains misspellings or poor grammar

·  The text message contains a suspicious link

·     The message's tone is urgent or requests your immediate attention

·      The message asks for your account or payment information

·      The message is received from a personal number or from a suspicious sender-ID


The company never asks its customers to call any unknown number or download any third party app for such activities. It has also lodged an official complaint against these phone numbers and has urged the consumers to beware of such fake SMS/calls as this may also result in financial loss.

Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited also requests the general public including its consumers to report such malpractices with the name of the company by calling 011-66757966 or by sending an e-mail to consumercare@tatapower-ddl.com

General Advisory to avoid being scammed

·        Verify the SMS source/ Sender ID

·        Do not pay bills from untrustworthy sources

·        Do not call or click on the link provided in the message

·        Do not contact on provided contact no. or share any details

·        Do not install any apps that allow you to share your screen with others, through external links

·        Beware of making payments to private accounts

·        Whenever the company sends an official message, you will always see the sender ID. For example, for Tata Power-DDL, one can see this in the senders' name- TPDDL-D. Hence, if the sender ID does not contain the word “TPDDL” or is received from a personal number, one should exercise caution before responding
